Our research depends on the generosity of families who volunteer their time. By taking part in a study, you help us better understand how children learn and how we can support those who struggle.
Our current study: PREMATH
Why do some children find learning to read and to count easier than others? The PREMATH project, funded by the FRM, investigates how playing together as a family supports the development of early language and numerical skills. We are especially interested in comparing children born preterm with children born at term, since being born early is associated with a greater risk of later difficulties.
Who can take part. Families with a child currently in their final year of kindergarten (grande section de maternelle), whether your child was born preterm or at term.
What taking part involves.
- Two play sessions at our lab in Lyon
- Six weeks of games to play at home (which are yours to keep afterwards!)
- Compensation of €75 per visit to the lab
By taking part, you help researchers better understand how playing together as a family supports children’s earliest learning.
Testing takes place at PLANETE, a facility at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center dedicated to research with children. It’s a welcoming space designed to put young children at ease.

Another way to help
Beyond this specific study, the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center keeps a registry of volunteers who’d like to be told about future studies. Registering takes about five minutes; you’re then emailed about studies that match, and you’re always free to decide whether to take part.
